In fall of 2021, I had the opportunity to be a supernumerary in Carmen’s Tragedy. It was my first ever opera attendance, let alone performance, and I loved it. And so did my then 7 year old. He came to every rehearsal and every performance and he was entranced. He still is - by the story, the music, the voices, and the acting. In fact, he’s since performed in an opera himself. I think opera is one of those things that many of us don’t know we like because we’ve literally never seen an entire show. The clips you see here and there - they don’t do it justice and they do not demonstrate how engrossing an opera really is. I highly recommend bringing your kids, your friends, and yourself to see this one and find out if you love it too.
